The Cape May County Sheriff's Office is rolling out a new app for iPhone and Android that allows the public to have anonymous conversation with officers.
"Ya know crime stoppers, people call up and they give a tip and there is no way of getting back to them. This gives us a chance of having a two way conversation to develop additional information we might need to help an agency with a search warrant," Sheriff Gary Schaffer said.
Texting your tips isn't new, many departments in our area have the system, but the sheriff's office app for smart phones is new and they say its making things a lot easier for you and its taking down some pretty tough criminals.
"We were able to do search warrants, arrest warrants, we've gotten narcotics tips, child support warrants. It's been fantastic," Schaffer said.
"There is no greater foe to the criminal than the police and citizens working together," Sgt. Jeffery Cohen said.
To download this app just go to your app store and search Cape May County Sheriff's office.
All messages sent are completely anonymous.
"There's no way we could even begin to get the info it goes to a private company called citizen observer that totally scrambles everything," Schaffer said.
The sheriffs office is also working a new program called face crook... that will publish the picture and information for anyone who has warrants in the county.
"What I am hoping will happen is someone will click on a picture and say wow this guy lived here, I know that guy, but he's not living here anymore. He's now here and they can do that through tip 411," Schaffer said.
