The "sonic boom" heard by Galloway Twp. residents around 10 p.m. Wednesday may have been the result of off-shore flight tests.
Officials from the New Jersey Air National Guard, 177th Fighter Wing confirmed that flight drills were in action at the time of the mysterious disturbance.
According to officials, the nighttime flight drills happen roughly 25 miles off the New Jersey coast in an area referred to as "Whiskey 107."
Officials add that these tests are performed annually and that they try to keep the disturbances to a minimum during these necessary drills.
