More than a year and a half after a bizarre and deadly accident claimed the life of a Pleasantville woman, prosecutors say the man responsible has yet to be found.
30 year old Victor Hernandez- Salgado, of Absecon, was indicted by an Atlantic County Grand Jury Monday for his alleged role in a fatal drunk driving accident in 2011.
It was around 2 a.m. on August 7th when authorities say he was driving on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township with a male friend and his girlfriend. Hernandez- Salgado's vehicle collided with a taxi, and spun off the road into a marsh. When they arrived to the scene, authorities only found Hernandez- Salgado and his male passenger, not his girlfriend, 32 year old Mayelin Perez, who unbeknownst to police had been thrown from the vehicle.
Both men said they were the only ones in the vehicle. It wasn't until nearly 24 hours later, after Perez's family reported her missing, that authorities went back to the area of the marsh, and found Perez alive, but suffering from severe head injuries. She died 10 days later.
Criminal charges were filed against Hernandez- Salgado in October of 2011, but he has remained a fugitive ever since.
