Police have released more information about a violent series of events, that led to the arrests of eight people in Atlantic City Monday night.
Atlantic City Police first responded the 3800 block of Ventnor Avenue around 10 Monday night for a report of an armed robbery. No victims came forward to report the incident at the time.
Later in the night, around 11, Police responded to an assault in progress at the Sea Breeze Condominiums. Police say four men entered one of the condos and assaulted the occupants with various weapons, including a golf club a crow bar and a baseball bat. Two men, 22 year-old Melvin Young, of Egg Harbor City and 20 year-old Jasper Walker, of Mays Landing were taken to the hospital for head and leg injuries sustained in the attack. Their injuries are not considered life threatening. The condo was also damaged during the attack.
Four Atlantic City men, 20 year-old Marcus Mason, 22 year-old Karl Knowles, 22 year-old Keith Garland, and 23 year-old Nicholas Russo, were arrested for that incident.
Further investigation revealed that three of those four men were the victims of the earlier armed robbery on Ventnor Avenue. Police say cash, wallets and phones were stolen as the suspects pointed a gun at the occupants of the home, including a 4 year-old child. Police later identified Young as the man who pointed the gun in the armed robbery. Young, Walker, and a 17 year-old juvenile were charged in connection with the armed robbery on Ventnor Avenue. Police recovered the handgun used in that robbery.
All who were arrested, except a woman who was found in possession of marijuana at the Condo where the assault took place, and the juvenile, are being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
