A night at the movies is about to become a whole new experience for area residents as the Tilton Eight and IMAX Theater is set to open in Northfield.
Workers were making the finishing touches twenty-four hours before show time.
Formally the Tilton Nine, the Frank Theaters Tilton Eight and IMAX will now feature a unique experience for local moviegoers.
"Imax is an amazing, amazing picture," said Debbie Frank, Executive Vice President of Frank Theaters.
"Its huge, this is the biggest IMAX screen around. Its 3d technology for this film, there will be lots of IMAX 3d and you get the glasses with your ticket price."
But, the upgrades don't stop there. In addition to automatic box offices, guests also have the option of purchasing their tickets online, where they can pick the seat of their choice and experience the technology.
"We have two projectors each with a 6000 watt light bulb, basically, Xenon light bulb that projects on the screen," said Imax Installation Supervisor Phillip Grider.
"We have proprietary technology that actually blends the two images on the screen so you see a perfect image."
And the completion of the 350-seat theater and its thirty-three foot high and sixty-six foot wide screen has residents and officials getting excited.
"It's very exciting. I live here in Northfield. We've been waiting all winter for this to reopen. The big screen picture, the sound, the whole experience, its great," said Northfield resident Kenneth Haney.
"We're going to have a lot of people that don't want to travel and it's easy to drop their children off and come into the theater so it should be great," said Frank.
And area movie patrons are looking forward to having this theater in their backyard.
"I've been to the one in Atlantic City but this is right down the road. Its much more convenient," said Haney.
Movie lovers can get their first taste of the IMAX experience Thursday night at a 9 p.m. and midnight showing of Iron Man 3.
