The man on trial for allegedly killing a Hammonton mother and son was found guilty on all counts. Patrick Latko had maintained his innocence all along, but the jury didn't believe him.
34-year-old Patrick Latko showed no emotion as his fate was read aloud in a packed court room. After he was found guilty on all charges, his family rushed out of the court room, frantic and hysterical.
The trial began last tuesday, on Wednesday jury deliberations began after closing arguments were heard in the case.
Prosecutors say Latko acted out in a jealous rage when he brutally stabbed 29-year-old Ryan Patterson and his mother, 64 year old Diana Patterson to death inside their Hammonton home back in November of 2011.
The state claimed Latko was jealous that his ex–girlfriend had been spending time with Ryan.
The defense had argued that there was no physical evidence linking Latko to the killings.
Shortly after the jury was dismissed the Patersons' family and friends shed tears of relief in the hallway, now knowing that they have some closure and that this nightmare is finally over.
Jurors deliberated for only half a day before reaching the verdict Wednesday.
Latkos bail has now been revoked as he waits for sentencing which is scheduled for June 10th.
He could face the rest of his life in prison.
