A Ventnor woman was named the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey's Volunteer of the Year Tuesday night.
Maria Mento, who is the Executive Vice President and CFO at Atlantic County Utilities Authority, was recognized for her service and various leadership roles within the organization. The yearly award is given to a local volunteer who shows great commitment to the United Way in the region.
Mento says the time she spends volunteering with the United Way is her way of helping those who are down on their luck.
"There's so many people that are in terrible situations or have terrible circumstances to deal with and it's really no fault of their own," said Mento.
Other local businesses and organizations were honored by the United Way in the ceremony held at Bally's.
