MAYS LANDING -

Kindergarten and first grade students in Mays Landing received an important lesson in giving as they raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Pasta for Pennies campaign took place over the month of February with students at the Joseph C. Shaner School brought change into their classrooms.

The winning class enjoyed an Olive Garden pasta lunch, but their teachers say they took a lot more away from the project then full bellies.

"Making sure that the children understood the value of really putting their energy and efforts into one particular area, so that the greatest good could come from it," said Daniel Cartwright, principal of Joseph C. Shaner School.

This is the tenth year the school has raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and they broke their record this year, raising just over $6,300.
