In hopes of helping to slow the epidemic of prescription drug abuse, Project Medicine Drop gets a big boost in Atlantic City.
A prescription medicine drop box is now located in the lobby of the Public Safety Building in Atlantic City.
The box allows anyone to dispose of unused and expired prescription medications anonymously, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Officials say the drop box will not only combat drug abuse but will also protect the public.
"Quarterly we'll incinerate it - that's the proper way to dispose of it. What you don't want to do is flush it down the toilet or put it in the sink because what happens is your prescription drugs will actually end up in our water supply," said Lt. James Sarkos of the Atlantic City Police Department.
The drop boxes only accept solid pharmaceuticals and cannot accept syringes or liquids.
