An early morning shooting on a normally quiet street leaves a father and local business owner dead on his birthday.
Family and friends made their way to Wally Santos' house on Falling Leaf Court Thursday morning to comfort each other and are now trying to figure how the father of two was gunned down just feet from his front door.
"He was too nice. He was nice to people. He always tried to help people out," Santos' son, Waldy Santos said.
Authorities say at least one shot rang out just after two a.m. Thursday morning. Santos would have celebrated his 51st birthday the same day he was fatally shot.
"Everyone loved my dad. Everywhere he went. He knew lots of people. Hundreds of people," Waldy said.
Those who live in the cul–de–sac in the quiet Galloway neighborhood say this street is filled with families, kids play in the street, and now they wonder if it's even safe to go outside.
"With the rest of the neighbors around here it throws a concern on everybody. You don't realize it until it's in your own back yard," Neighbor Brent Dooley said.
"Its sad that people are just taking the lives of others with no regard and then just continue to live like nothing happened but that's the society we're living in," family pastor Jorge Estrada said.
Santos' son says his dad was an upstanding citizen. He owned multiple businesses in Atlantic City, including Wally's Barber Shop on Ventnor Ave.
"He always tried to give kids advice. Young kids in the streets. Tell them to get out and go to church," Waldy said.
Instead of celebrating Santos' birthday, his family is now asking for the publics help for any information they might have.
If you do have information regarding this homicide, you can report it to Crime Stoppers or the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit.
