Spring has sprung and Easter weekend is upon us, and businesses that line the Ocean City boardwalk say it's an important weekend.
In the first summer since Hurricane Sandy, storeowners are eyeing the influx of visitors as their chance to start the season off right.
"Its sunny, beautiful, it seemed like a great weekend to get going," said Brandon Monokian of "We Make It Personal" laser engraving.
That attitude was shared by many businesses along the boardwalk Friday, as shops put the finishing touches on their appearance, hoping to cash in on the foot traffic Easter weekend is expected to bring.
"Yeah Easter is usually pretty busy. Its exciting, especially with the great weather, it should be extra busy this weekend," said Monokian.
"We Make It Personal" purposely scheduled its soft opening around the holiday hoping to take advantage of visitors curing their cabin fever.
"I grew up coming down the shore so I know that people are down here for Easter, I always have so its nice to be working down here this weekend," said Monokian.
And no matter what brings guests to the shore this weekend, from deals on clothing to traditional Easter treats, businesses are anxious to get back to normal after Hurricane Sandy.
"I hope customers realize, business is open and we're ready to go," said Joanne Quinn of the Original Fudge Kitchen.
"Today is going to be a busy day and tomorrow even busier."
Memorial day is typically labeled as the start of the summer season, but shops along the boardwalk in Ocean City know its Easter that brings the combination of spring weather and plenty of visitors that their shops love to see.
"Easter weekend is huge for us," said Kathleen Kleva of White Palm.
White Palm reopened last weekend to prepare for Easter.
And because of the extensive damage to beaches in Northern New Jersey, staff sees the potential for more visitors making a trip further south to Ocean City.
"I think we're hoping for the trickle down and you know, still supporting the local businesses," said Kleva.
So as Easter brings crowds and the hope of nice weather, boardwalk businesses are looking to start the season right.
"People are shopping, people are ready for it to warm up and ready to get their summer stuff on so we're excited now," said Kleva.
Several businesses and attractions along the boardwalk are offering special sales and deals this weekend.
