Cape May County man charged with aggravated assault of double amputee

CAPE MAY COUNTY -

A 55-year-old Cape May County man is behind bars Tuesday, accused of assaulting a double amputee and stealing his wheelchair.
 
Middle Township police say that the assault happened Thursday just after midnight, when 55-year-old Joseph Devine got into a fight at the bus stop on Rio Grande Ave. with a 57-year-old Cape May Man who is a double amputee.

Devine, who police believe was drinking at the time, allegedly assaulted the man and stole his wheelchair, a checkbook, and some cash from him.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.


Devine has been charged with aggravated assault and theft.
