One person is dead after a single-car accident Wednesday night, police say.
According to a press release, the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to Weymouth Rd. in the area of Creek Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday for a reported car crash. Officers arrived to find that only one vehicle had been involved in the crash.
Their investigation revealed a 2004 Jeep Liberty, operated by 43-year-old James Romeo of Egg Harbor City left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole and several trees.
Romeo was extricated from the vehicle by flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Police say Romeo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and no airbags deployed. Romeo succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
