WOODBURY, GLOUCESTER CO. -
In a controversial vote, Gloucester County Freeholders voted six to one to close the County Jail and send inmates to Cumberland County.
The meeting was heated, as angry residents, many of whom are corrections officers set to lose their jobs, voiced their concerns with the plan. Officials NBC 40 spoke with on Tuesday in Cumberland County have mixed reactions about taking in the extra inmates. Some say the decision will bring in increased revenue, while others say it will bring about safety concerns and stress the county's social services.
Inmates could be moved to Cumberland County Jail as soon as July 1st.
