Senator Frank Lautenberg is aiming to raise the country's minimum wage with his latest bill. Lautenberg is a co-sponsor of the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, which was introduced in the senate Tuesday.
If passed, it would increase the national minimum wage to $10.10 per hour in incremental increases over three years.
New Jersey voters will have the power to raise the state's minimum wage to $8.50 in November after Governor Chris Christie vetoed the increase back in January.
