MAYS LANDING -

A former Atlantic City Housing Authority employee has been indicted on 26 counts for defrauding and stealing over $200,000 from the Housing Authority, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday.

Brian Lewis, 41, of Pleasantville was indicted on multiple counts of official misconduct, theft, filing false claims on a government contract, and fraud, among others.  Authorities say Lewis used his position to create fake companies, and then billed the authority for work already completed by legitimate companies.

Lewis and his wife were also indicted for tax violations. Lewis is also accused of fraudulently collecting unemployment.

The State is seeking a prison term, restitution, and forfeiture of future public employment.
