Good morning, South Jersey! If you like warm weather, then you'll love today's forecast. Sunny skies are already in place, and they'll remain there for the rest of the day. Temperatures will also soar to the mid 50s for many locations, while the coast hangs in there in the low 50s.
That's where the simple part of this forecast ends and the complicated part begins.
A cold front will pass through the area overnight tonight, and while there may not be too much moisture associated with it, a strong shot of cold air is right behind it. A small piece of energy is also lurking behind the frontal boundary, and it will begin to take shape and organize itself overnight tonight as it moves eastward. I do believe that snow showers from this impulse are likely, but the amount is still uncertain. The major weather models have been at odds with how to handle it, but two main trains of thought have emerged: A lighter, less impactful solution (Which is what the European model has been showing for the last few days), and a more moderate solution which would yield a few inches of snow (If you go by what the GFS American model shows). There are two crucial details to watch: How quickly this low intensifies, and where it goes. A slower intensification is what the Euro hints, while the GFS is a bit more robust...this ties in with the snowfall amount theories that I mentioned earlier. Both options are still very much valid at this point, but I have been leaning towards the lighter solution. Again, this can change, so stay posted on Facebook and Twitter for updates from Dan and myself. Oh, highs will range in the mid 30s...didn't want to forget about that.
Sunday will be sunnier, but it will also be colder and windier than its Saturday counterpart. Highs in the low 30s will feel like highs in the teens through much of the day due to strong and occasionally gusty winds. We warm up a bit for President's Day with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 40s, but a bigger warm up arrives on Tuesday. We also get another chance for rain on that day with highs near 50 degrees. Another cool down is in the works for the end of next work week as well as another storm system, but it is still 8 days out. We'll continue to watch and see if things sync up for a chance at rain, snow, or both.
Have a great day and a great weekend!
