Public vote rescinded; Wildwood beaches to remain free

Posted: Updated:

The beaches in Wildwood will remain free to visitors this summer.

Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. spoke to NBC 40 Wednesday night and that the resolution to hold a vote on implementing beach fees has been rescinded.  The vote was set for early March.

Instead, Mayor Troiano said Wildwood plans to work with the surrounding communities to try to generate additional revenue this summer.  The Mayor added that the issue is not off the table, and could be brought up in the future.

Proponents of beach fees say the additional revenue would help lift the burden off taxpayers who pay to maintain the beaches.  Those against beach fees say taking away free beaches would hurt tourism in the city.
