TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -

The Miss America pageant returns to Atlantic City in September after spending six years in Las Vegas.

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno (gwa-DAHG'-noh) announced a three-year deal with pageant officials on Thursday.

Terms were not immediately available.

She says the pageant will show the Jersey shore is open for business in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Atlantic City casinos have been struggling in recent years amid the recession and competition from gambling halls in neighboring states.

The pageant was an Atlantic City fixture for decades until 2006 when organizers moved it to Las Vegas in hopes of attracting a younger TV audience.
