More than a dozen of the world's best competitive eaters gathered at Showboat Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City for the Fat Tuesday, King Cake eating world championship Tuesday afternoon.
The Major League Eating–sanctioned event is part of Showboat's annual Mardi Gras celebration, and offered $2,000 in cash to the winner.
Patrick 'Deepdish' Bertoletti, who came all the way from Chicago, took home and trophy and the prize money for the third straight year.
"Today I came to the Showboat to defend my record in the King Cake and I did that. I ate a dozen king cakes in eight minutes," said Bertoletti.
12 King Cakes adds up to roughly 5.25 pounds and 7,800 calories, according to a release from Caesar's Entertainment.
Alongside the professional eaters, one random audience member also took part in the Mardi Gras competition.
