Pope Benedict's sudden announcement to step aside has sent shock waves through the Catholic church.

Local catholic leaders say that they are sure Pope Benedict XVI's decision was in the best interests of the Catholic church.
"As a human being and as a pastor, as a shepherd of Christ, he is a very humble man who cares for his church. So, I'm sure whatever decision he made is always in the best interest of his church," said Father Fredrick Clement of Our Lady of Sorrows in Linwood.
Father Clement says he believes that the Pope resigns with hope for the Catholic church's future.
