VINELAND -
Local police are warning residents to protect themselves from
being a potential victim of a phone scam.
Vineland
police say that they've gotten at least a dozen reports of these calls to
residents.
Officials say the caller claims a family member is being held
hostage for ransom and will be killed if money is not wired immediately.
Police tell residents to be cautious when receiving calls
from unknown phone numbers.
Police believe that the calls are coming from the 874 area
code.
Calls have also been reported in Millville
and Franklin Township.
The calls have all been made during the day to a home phone.
Police ask anyone who receives one of these calls to hang up
and report it immediately.
