(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (13-4, 8-3 NJAC) began a three-game homestand with an
83-70 victory over Brooklyn College (4-11) on Monday afternoon. It was the Ospreys' second consecutive win. Five Ospreys scored in double figures led by Darnell McCargo (Woodlynne/Collingswood) with a team-high 19 points plus nine rebounds.
The Ospreys used an 11-2 run to open the contest with Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) tallying five of those points. Stockton never looked back as they held the lead throughout. The Ospreys stretched the lead to 19-4 before the Bulldogs later cut the margin to five at 36-31. The Ospreys closed out the half with a 42-35 lead. Blamon and Nnamdi Usuwa (Colonia/Colonia) scored 10 points each to lead the team at the break.
Stockton used a 12-3 run highlighted by four points from McCargo to extend the lead to 54-41 early in the second half before Brooklyn once again closed the gap. An 8-1 spurt by the Bulldogs made it a 59-55 game with 10:34 remaining but Stockton answered with eight straight points and was never threatened again, leading by at least eight for the last 9:32 en route to the 83-70 victory.
Usuwa tallied a season-high 18 markers while Blamon added 15 points. Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) and Rameel Johnson (Newark/Science Park) each chipped in with 10 markers. Rameel Johnson's career-high 10 rebounds led the squad as Stockton enjoyed a 45-30 advantage on the glass. Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland) and McCargo pulled down nine boards apiece, with Pistone grabbing a career high. Kevin Johnson also dished a career-high nine assists.
Kavon Baker topped the Bulldogs with 22 points while teammates Steven Grant and Egzon Gjonbalaj added 16 and 10 markers respectively.
Stockton will host NJAC foe The College of New Jersey on Wednesday for an 8 pm matchup. Brooklyn will travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn also on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm
