VINELAND -
A bus driver in Vineland was arrested after he allegedly left
a child on the bus after he wrongfully picked her up at a stop.
Vineland police arrested 37 year-old William Bartley after
they say he exited his bus and went home Tuesday morning without checking for any
remaining students. Police say Bartley, a substitute driver for the Vineland Board of Education, mistakenly picked up the 4 year–old girl as she waited at
her stop with a family member. The bus never stopped at the girl's school, and she remained
on the bus until he parked it and went home for the morning.
The child's family members contacted the school and the
school realized the girl did not arrive, and contacted police. The girl was found on the bus an hour later by school board
employees.
Bartley is charged with endangering the welfare of a child,
and was released on a summons to appear in court.
