TRENTON -
The state Supreme Court ruled Thursday to reinstate the homicide conviction of a Pleasantville man.
The court reinstated the reckless manslaughter conviction of 25 year-old Kevin Campfield, who pleaded guilty to the charge in 2007 but later appealed, arguing the state had not established a sufficient factual basis when he admitted the crime. The Supreme Court said Thursday that the appellate division erred when it agreed and ordered that the legal process begin again.
Campfield admitted to beating and robbing Ivory Bennett in January of 2006, following an evening of drinking in Pleasantville.
