SOMERS POINT -
Residents of Somers Point were given a chance to get to know the members of their police department Wednesday morning.
The Coffee With a Cop program in Somers Point was started last February, and officers say it has been a hit with residents ever since. Wednesday's event was held at the McDonalds on Route 9.
The program is meant for officers and community members to form a closer relationship. Officers say the lines of communication at these events goes both ways.
"They have various questions from fraud down to child safety to driving, to asking about, how much is a ticket. They've asked everything, we're here to let them know that they can come to us, and they can assist us with crimes on the street as well," said Lieutenant Anthony Disciascio of the Somers Point Police Department.
Wednesday's event was focused on helping senior citizens in the community. The Somers Point Police Department will continue to hold community relations events in the future.
