(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (10-2, 6-1 NJAC) rode their defensive pressure in the first half and cruised to a 76-53 victory over Montclair State (4-9, 1-6 NJAC) on Thursday night. Jesse Hunt (Freehold/Freehold Boro) tied his career high of 13 points to lead the Ospreys to their seventh straight win at home this season.
Stockton jumped out to a 39-25 first half lead on the strength of 11 points by Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) and 10 from Hunt. The Ospreys forced 14 Red Hawk turnovers that led to 13 points during the frame. Stockton also pulled down 10 offensive rebounds to go with nine steals in the first half as they took the 14-point advantage into the break. Rameel Johnson (Newark/Science Park) shot a perfect 4-4 from the field for eight points to help the Ospreys during the half.
In the second half, the Ospreys stretched their lead to 65-37 with 8:36 remaining after an 18-6 run. Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored all seven of his points during the spurt. Montclair State used a 10-0 run in a four-minute span to cut the lead down to 18 with 4:58 to play but Stockton proved to be too much for the Red Hawks and the Ospreys coasted to the 76-53 win.
Kevin Johnson and Hunt both led the way with 13 points each. Johnson and Darnell McCargo (Woodlynne/Collingswood) each registered four steals. Ken Rubenstein led Montclair with 10 points. Stockton out-rebounded Montclair Sate 40-33 with 18 caroms coming off the offensive glass.
Stockton will travel next Wednesday night to face Rowan University for an 8 pm matchup. Montclair State will face College of New Jersey, also on January 9 at 8pm at TCNJ.
