The national insurance crime bureau says new years day is one of the busiest for car thefts.

Here are some tips to avoid having your car stolen.

Leave your car in plain sight, always take your keys with you, don't hide your keys anywhere within or outside the car.

And you can try applying the emergency brake, turning your wheels hard left or right before setting the car in park.

It makes it more difficult for you to be quickly towed.

And don't presume because you have an old car it's not tempting to thieves, the most stolen vehicle of 2011, was the 1994 Honda Accord.
