Stockton Cruises Past NJCU, 63-53

(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (3-1, 2-1 NJAC) won their second straight game with a 63-53 victory over New Jersey City University (2-5,  1-3 NJAC) on Wednesday evening. Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) led the Ospreys with a career-high 15 points. The victory was Stockton's 18th consecutive win over the Gothic Knights dating back to the 1998-99 season.

 

The Ospreys jumped out to a 33-19 lead in the first half as Stockton held the Knights to 8-33 (24.2%) shooting in the first 20 minutes. Farrell scored 11 of during the period to lead the charge. The Ospreys shot well from the free throw line again as they hit on 10-11 during the first stanza and 20-26 (76.9%) for the game.

 

 The second half saw New Jersey City climb back into the contest after Stockton raced out to a 9-1 run to extend the lead to 44-20. The Ospreys held a 25-point advantage at 49-24 before a Gothic Knights' 18-2 charge brought New Jersey City to within nine at 51-42 with 5:46 remaining. Maxime Kaminski led the way, scoring 10 of her 11 points during the run. Stockton answered the threat with six points in a row and was able to right the ship for the 63-53 win.

 

The Ospreys were led by Farrell with 15 points while teammates Alexa Ryan (Hazlet/Raritan) and Che'Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) added 11 points each. Freshman Tayon Morgan-Jones (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) grabbed a career-high and game-high nine rebounds to lead all players. Seven of her caroms came on the offensive glass.

 

Ashley Vasquez led the Gothic Knights with 15 points followed by Alnisa Hernaiz with 14 markers and Kaminski with 11. Hernaiz also pulled down eight boards for NJCU.

 

Stockton will travel to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday for 6 pm matchup. New Jersey City will start a two-game homes stand when Kean University comes to visit on Saturday at 2 pm.
