WASHINGTON D.C. -

New Jersey U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg introduced a bill in Washington Tuesday that would extend unemployment benefits for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The bill is designed to extend relief provided to those who lost their jobs due to the storm, and help businesses that are feeling the burden of disaster related unemployment claims.  The "Superstorm Sandy Unemployment Relief Act" would provide an additional 13 weeks of disaster unemployment assistance.

A similar bill was approved bill in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
