Margate landmark donates to Red Cross

MARGATE -

The Red Cross was in Margate Tuesday afternoon to accept a generous donation from supporters of Lucy the Elephant.

Lucy the elephant suffered minor damage following Hurricane Sandy and as a result, developed a tee shirt  to help offset the cost of repairs.

The "I'm still standing" tee shirts sold better then expected and now the Lucy the Elephant Organization was able to donate a portion of it's sales to the American Red Cross at a luncheon Tuesday.

"We are a charity, and that's how we survive by people giving to us. But as I said sometimes there's a bigger picture. It's a way of saying thanks that Lucy was spared the brunt of the storm, she's still standing strong and will be here for many more generations to come," said Rich Helfant, Executive Director of Lucy the Elephant.

The Lucy the Elephant Organization expects to present the Red Cross with more money in the future from the tee shirt sales.
