Two local radio stations combined to raise over $20,000 and six tractor trailers full of food and clothing donations for local families in need this holiday season.
The two Longport Media events, 103.7 WMGM's Operation Help, and 1400 WOND's Barbara Altman's Front Porch Turkey Drive, were held last week to benefit the Community Food Bank of South Jersey, Jewish Family Services Food Pantry and St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in Atlantic City. 103.7's operation help featured Jojo and Scotty of "The Morning Edge" camping out last week at Chickie's and Pete's in Egg Harbor Township. The two collected donations around the clock for the 5th straight year, but they say this year's drive served two purposes.
"This year was a little bit more special because we do it every year for the holidays, which we think is important, but this year with Hurricane Sandy we were able to help a lot of families here in the area," said Joe Borsello, known as Jojo on "The Morning Edge."
Monday, the Kellogg's Company donated two tractor trailers of food from Michigan to the Food Bank as part of Operation Help.
