On Saturday, November 17, 2012, at approximately 5:18 pm, the Egg Harbor Township Police Department received a report of vehicle burglaries in the parking lot of the Shore Mall, in the Cardiff section of the township. Off-duty Northfield Officer Martin Peary observed two subjects walking through the parking lot, checking for unlocked vehicle doors, entering at least one and removed property. Officers Anthony Venuto, Edward Bertino and Mark Mensch responded to the area, they located the two suspects and took both into custody. They recovered property believed to be stolen but the owner was unknown at the time.
Arrested was Christopher Way, 21 years of age from Somers Point, and John Monzo, 22 years of age from Northfield. Way was charged with Burglary, Theft and Conspiracy. Monzo was charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Conspiracy. Both were released on a summons pending a court appearance.
Detectives Mark Wagner and Heather Stumpf, of the Egg Harbor Township Police Criminal Investigations Bureau, were able to identify the owner of the recovered property and it was returned it to him.
The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is advising the public to make sure you lock the doors of your vehicles at all times, even if they are in front of your home or in your driveway. Please do not leave any valuables inside your vehicles, whether locked or not. These type incidents are a very preventable type of crime.
