Richard Stockton (3-0, 1-0 NJAC) won their third consecutive game with a convincing 75-55 victory over Kean University (0-3, 0-1 NJAC) in the NJAC opener for both teams. The Ospreys posted their third straight win by double digits on the young season, led by a trio of double-figure scorers.
Stockton jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first seven minutes and never looked back. The Ospreys' balanced scoring was led by Rich Suhr (Toms River/Toms River East) and Darnell McCargo (Woodlynne/Collingswood) who tallied seven points first-half each. Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) and Nate Bolden (Long Branch/Long Branch) tossed in six markers apiece to help Stockton forge a 37-24 lead at the break.
The second stanza was more of the same as Stockton methodically pulled away, never letting the Cougars get closer than 11 points. The Ospreys clinched the game with a 16-6 run over a 10-minute span that left them with an insurmountable 55-35 lead with 8:24 remaining in the contest. Suhr, Blamon and Jesse Hunt (Freehold/Freehold Boro) each sank a three-pointer during the spurt.
Suhr led the way with a game-high 16 points including three three-pointers. Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) once against directed the offense to perfection as he added 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds against just one turnover in 32 minutes of play. McCargo chipped in with 10 points, three blocked shots and four steals while Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland) led the Ospreys with seven rebounds.
Michael Burton was the lone Cougar in double figures with 10 points while teammate Frank Nock tallied nine markers for the Cougars.
Stockton will have eight days off before they take on The College of New Jersey on Wednesday November 28 at 8 pm. Kean travels to Ramapo on November 28 for a 7:30 tip.
