The Atlanticare Neurosciences Institute is the host of the Stroke Summit, which began Thursday at Caesars Atlantic City.
The summit will feature over 200 guests from throughout the medical field and will include presentations from experts like Dr. Domenic Coletta of the Cape Regional Medical Center. Dr. Coletta is also a ringside physician and spoke about the traumatic brain injuries seen throughout the sport of boxing.
Dr. Coletta says sports related brain injuries are a growing issue and emphasized proper treatment and screening before a fighter can return to competition after a knockout.
"It's a stroke conference primarily, but traumatic brain injuries are certainly out there. We talk about it all the time with football with concussions and returning to play and its certainly a big issue in the sport of boxing."
The Stroke Summit at Caesars Atlantic City will conclude on Friday.
