Three dozen students were taken to area hospitals after a bus ran off the Garden State Parkway Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around mile maker 34 northbound on the parkway around 3:30 Monday afternoon. Police say the bus ran off the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree alongside the road.
The bus, driven by 54 year-old Christine Williams, of Pleasantville, was on its way to Atlantic City from Charter Tech High School in Somers Point.
Parents were quickly notified and described a frantic scene.
"I got a call that the school bus has ran off the road,
and I live in Atlantic City so I just drove right over here to where the
accident was. I got here and my daughter
is on a stretcher, but it's chaos," said Damian Burgos, whose daughter was injured in the accident.
All 36 students and the driver were taken to the hospital for what police say are minor injuries.
The accident is under investigation.
