Pete joined NBC 40 in August of 2004 and is thrilled to bring the area's most LOCAL coverage for high school sports. He began covering sports as far back as high school at Plymouth Whitemarsh in Plymouth Meeting, PA. While at Temple, Pete worked for The Temple News, and also WRTI-FM radio.
Pete's first job in television was working for WPVI-TV Action News in Philadelphia. He credits the late Gary Papa with encouraging him to follow his dream of becoming an on-air sports personality.
In September of 1994, Pete got his first on-air job at KDUH-TV ABC 4 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Despite knowing very little about the Cornhusker state, Pete spent ten years there working for three different stations. KLKN-TV ABC 8 came calling in 1998 in Lincoln and then two months after that, it was up to Omaha at KPTM-TV FOX 42. While at FOX, Pete got to cover great Division One sports like Creighton basketball with Kyle Korver and University of Nebraska football with Ahman Green. Special events like the College World Series for baseball were a bonus too.
After relocating back to the King of Prussia area in 2004, Pete took one last chance at working near home and joined NBC 40. He's proud of the two franchise pieces that so many people love in the "Friday Night Blitz" and "Thursday Night Tipoff".
According to Thompson, "you can see the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers or Sixers highlights in a variety of places these days, but you can only see things like high school football, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, swimming, softball, baseball, and lacrosse on NBC 40...!!!"
"I take that responsibility VERY seriously and encourage anyone with a story idea to contact me here at the station"
