BEACH FILL PROJECT OFFICIALLY KICKS OFF IN AVALON
(Return to Video Menu - View Full)
AVALON -- While the equipment was out and ready to go on Wednesday, Avalon's beach fill project "officially" kicked off on Thursday morning, as bulldozers are currently creating piles of sand that will eventually be transferred to the north end beaches.
The project will place 60,000 cubic yards of sand on the borough's beachfront between 16th and 26th Streets. Officials say the replenishment will provide protection for the community during coastal storms, and make the beaches more enjoyable for both residents and tourists.
"It's very advantageous because we will have this project done well in advance of the spring/summer tourism season,” said Scott Wahl, Public Information officer of Avalon.
This is Avalon's third back passing beach fill project and it will wrap up on March 14th.
