MILLVILLE -- Authorities responded to an incident Thursday night in which a cat was shot to death on the 100 block of Oregon Street in Millville.
Millville resident Leighann Dimatteo is heart broken and in shock after discovering her cat had been shot and killed this afternoon.
This is not the only tragedy Leighann and her husband John are now facing.
Their daughter died just two weeks ago after a battle with a rare form of cancer.
"I just lost my daughter two weeks ago and then to have someone do this to my cat is just a horrible, horrible, horrible thing. Nobody deserves this. Not a cat. Not anybody," Leighann Dimatteo said.
Leighann and John live in a quiet 55 plus community and after having spent the last nine months living off and on at Cooper Hospital; they can't come to grips with why someone would shoot their cat Inkadink.
"To kill an innocent animal for no reason at all, it's terrible. People like that, I don't where people like that come from," added Dimatteo.
"It's a horrible thing to think that you live in a community with 104 other families and somebody would do this. It really is," said neighbor Jeanie Riggio.
Neighbors say they will stand by the Dimatteos and do what it takes to find out who did this.
"Were going to try and knock on some doors and see if anybody saw anything. I mean she is falling apart, you can see that," added Riggio.
Residents close to the family are now rallying together to help bring closure to this horrible chapter of the Dimatteo's life.
"They want to have some kind of closure. Some kind of peace and ultimately they would like to know who did it," added Riggio.
Police are investigating and if you have any information, you are asked to call Millville Police.
