CAPE MAY -- A solarium on the verge of being demolished may live on as a maritime museum.

The structure located next to Cape May's Convention Hall is free of charge to a qualified owner who is willing to pay for the moving charge. At a meeting Tuesday, not one, but two groups expressed interest in taking ownership. One is hoping to turn it into a maritime museum near the Nature Center and is asking the city for a loan of more than $200,000 to do so.

"The group will have to get the necessary permitting, funding approvals, and secure a contract as well as the insurances. That is a very stiff test to meet, but hopefully they'll be able to do it," said Mayor Edward Mahaney.

No word yet on the final decision from today's meeting as officials continue to mull over the options.
