LONGPORT----A Longport resident is making a big roar about a silent disease that every woman should be aware of….and that's ovarian cancer.
Alice Martin, who lost her daughter and sister-in-law to the cancer is heading up South Jersey's first Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation location in the area. Tuesday will be a kickoff meeting to educate women especially those who experience symptoms like bowel or urinary problems.
Martin said, "I want women to listen to their bodies and when urinary tract infections or irritable bowel things go on longer than 6 months and the doctor keeps giving you pain medicine or anti-depressants go to another doctor ."
Alice Martin is also trying to turn the town into the color teal in september, by encouraging her neighbors and the entire community to hang up teal ribbons outside their homes.
