ATLANTIC CITY-- Atlantic City voters have spoken. Current mayor and democratic candidate, Lorenzo Langford overwhelmingly won this years election, sweeping a majority of the city's six wards.
Tuesday night, alongside family, friends and supporters at his campaign headquarters, incumbent Democrat Lorenzo Langford gave his victory speech after sweeping the competition with over three thousand votes. In a city that traditionally votes overwhelmingly democratic, the results come as no surprise. "First of all thank almighty god for favoring us and putting awesome responsibility and burden on our shoulders to do the right thing in the city of Atlantic City." Langford is no stranger to politics. He was mayor of the city from 2002 to 2005 and in a special election last year won 68 percent of the vote to finish out what was left of former Mayor Bob Levy's term, which was to expire the end of this year. Meanwhile, Langford’s challengers, Independent candidates Joseph Polillo and current 5th Ward Councilman, Dennis Mason didn't come close. And in his first attempt at gaining the majority of voters, 24-year-old Republican candidate Jesse Kurtz says although he lost this years election, his campaign to bring change to Atlantic City isn't. "In one form or another I will be working with everyone to make Atlantic City a place that really fulfills the promises that were made initially when casinos first came to this town." Langford says, no matter which party line your vote landed on, there are great things to come in the next four years. "Atlantic City is on the brink of greatness I know most are concerned about downturn in economy and how dismal things have been but I think looking on horizon is the opportunity for us to meet out full potential and with a administration and city council that's willing to work together great things are going to happen." |
