NEW JERSEY-Advocates for and against allowing same sex marriage in New Jersey, are recruiting volunteers and calling lawmakers, as they prepare for a major public debate later this year.

Lawmakers are expected to try to pass a bill after the November election that would recognize gay marriages.

Those opposed to gay marriage have been mobilizing by signing petitions and contacting lawmakers.

Advocates have been doing much the same.

New jersey now has civil unions, which give gay couples the legal state benefits of marriage, but not the title.
