    Welcome To September

    Monday, September 1 2014 8:55 AM EDT2014-09-01 12:55:56 GMT
Happy Labor Day! Not only is today the first day of September, but it's also the first day of meteorological fall.Of course, you wouldn't know that if you stepped outside this morning. Unseasonable warmth hangs around for much of the week, including two shots at 90 degrees. Today isn't a wash-out, but scattered storms are possible later today and tomorrow night as a cold front passes through. After a second front passes this weekend, cooler air may return.

What a start to this holiday weekend we're having! High pressure from southern Ontario is quickly moving in from the northwest and will settle over the Northeast for the day today as well as the night. It will bring a wealth of cooler and drier air with it, so it will be VERY comfortable today and tonight. Summer, however, won't go down quietly. Heat and humidity creep back in on Saturday, setting us up for a rather warm start to the month of September.

Today will be a nearly identical copy of yesterday's weather with one major exception: The lack of humidity. Dew points rose into the mid 60's yesterday ahead of a decaying cold front that has since passed through the region this morning with little to no visible fanfare. We cool down for the end of the work week, only to watch summer arrive at the last second.

Yesterday marked just the second time since July 27th where we saw a high temperature that was, in some capacity, above our average for this time of year. Granted, it was by one single degree (83 was the recorded high, while our average is 82), but given how rare above average warmth has been this month, it's still noteworthy. We'll have a much better chance to see some truly above average temperature readings...

Good Tuesday morning to you, South Jersey! For the first time in nearly a month, we may actually see temperatures in the region that would be considered at or above average. What's the cause? Well, it's two fold....

High pressure will be a dominating feature in our weather pattern more often than not. A gradual warm-up also takes place through Thursday. Upper 80's are possible at this time. A weak front passes through late on Wednesday, and we also keep an eye on the Labor Day Weekend.
